For those of you who work in less formal or more artistic office settings, prints are a great way to add a little spice to your work-drobe and pretty easy to incorporate into your everyday working girl routine.

However, for those of us who work in more formal settings – working in prints can be a little more challenging. So, here are a few rules that may make it a little easier for us corporate girls to get in on the printed fun.

1. Keep it basic – Wear printed items in commonly accepted, work appropriate, colors (i.e. blue, black, grey, red…..). Rightfully or wrongfully so, being the lone spot of hot pink floral, in a sea of grey and black, may make you appear less serious to your less fashion forward colleagues.

2. Keep it casual – Wear your printed item on a day when you don’t expect any large meetings or conferences. During in-house or client meetings, conservative is key.

3. Keep it traditional – Wear prints that have been around longer than you have, this means hounds tooth, checked, gingham, stripes, etc. Some prints are gorgeous, but too confusing to the eye to ever work at work.

4. Keep it demure – Wear printed pieces that aren’t too tight, too low cut, or too short. Mixing print with improper fit only amplifies the inappropriateness of an outfit.

Hope this helps.
