Retro Vibes – The Mandarin

Let’s go a little back in time, weekend casual retro vibes. I’m certain we all now know what exactly that is and we’ll not be talking about the usual print shirts and that sort, but the Mandarin/ Band collar/ Grandad collar.

The mandarin trend is actually overlooked by a lot of people; the majority. But then again, that just allows for individuality in your person style even.

It’s a piece that really comes in handy during summer and especially in Africa where it can get so hot.

The mandarin is a versatile trend that can be dressed up or down, formal or casual. You can choose to wear it alone or under a blazer or a jacket of some sort, you can choose to leave the upper buttons undone or done, to go Gothic or not, tucked in or left out, there’s just a lot you can do with it.

When using underneath a blazer, it allows you to nail the Outfit with the right details as well.

And on casual days, a nice pair of boots would do just fine.

Though not likely to take the full collar’s place, it has also stood the test of time over the years and seems to be undergoing a reincarnation this season, repeatedly seen on the runways for SS14/SS15 collections; it’s definitely one to watch!
