After the closure some years ago of the Wouri and Paradis cinemas, Douala, the economic capital of Cameroon, will have a new cinema and theatre hall from 18 January 2017, we learned from an official communiqué.
Christened Canal Olympia and built in the Bessengué neighbourhood, this cinema and theatre hall will be the second in the network of the same name in Cameroon, after the one inaugurated on 14 June 2016 in the capital of the country, on the campus of the Yaoundé I University.
Built by the French group Vivendi, owned by Vincent Bolloré, the Canal Olympia cinemas “offer 18 cinema screenings per week, 6 days out of 7, with headlining films often just being at the same time in France. Three séances are reserved every week for a film for the younger public and an entire day is dedicated every month to African cinema and Nollywood. Concerts of African and international artists are also scheduled to take place later on”.
In addition to having a capacity of 300 seats inside and several thousand outside, the Canal Olympia cinema and theatre halls, with generally the most modern projection and digital sound equipment, have the particularity of fully operating from solar power.
