Some renowned African film actors and producers of Nollywood Association of Film Critics Award (NAFCA) have pledged to support the initiative of the Minister of Arts and Culture, Ama Tutu Muna geared towards rebuilding the Cameroon film industry and lifting it up to international standards.
The commitment was taken last August 15 at the end of a two-day brainstorming during a working session to establish a platform for collaboration between these actors and producers in Cameroon.
Speaking during the occasion, Minister Ama Tutu Muna thanked her guests for willingly accepting to accompany Cameroon in this project to put life into the growing Cameroon film industry.
She added that they thought that it was necessary to invite those who already have a good platform in production and development of the film industry sector so that Cameroon can tap from their rich experience.
According to her “We decided that by joining their pipeline, we can expose the talents of our film industry to the world as well as build our capacities.” Minister Ama Tutu Muna explained that the objective here is first of all to construct a platform for collaboration and later on come to the level of co-production as soon as possible because practice makes perfect.
She said this is an opening that illustrates that Africa is one and that experience ought to be shared in order to contribute to sustainable development in Africa. “Government’s role is to enable the establishment of such beneficial platforms for our professionals.” She noted.
Some of the guests like Ghanaian/Liberian actor and producer, Gregory Artus Frank, Nigeria Representative of NAFCA, Tosin Ajirire who is a journalist working for The SUN Nigeria and Nigerian TV and Film Producer, Moses Efret all lauded Minister Ama Tutu Muna for the show of humility in inviting them to come and help Cameroon in this reciprocal learning process.
The Minister announced that important decisions will be taken at the end of the meeting which will add impetus to the local film industry.
