Having listened closely to the recent interview with the 2015 Miss Cameroon USA, Vinielle Acha-morfaw, we cannot cast a blind eye on several shortcomings.
It appears Miss Vinielle was not up to the task of representing her country with its immense diversity.
Yet, it would be inadequate to put the blame on her alone. Rather, her preparatory coaching needs to be reviewed. We may ask ourselves how a young Cameroonian who grew up abroad could be capable of duly representing her country without being properly coached.
Moreover, the question arises as to who constituted the team that pre-selected and hoisted her candidature. All evidence derived from the interview points stark inadequacies in the coaching process.
Listen closely to 45 minutes 23 seconds into the interview where Apex 1 Radio's Ernest Kanjo asked Vinielle if interacts with Cameroonians in Maryland (the biggest Cameroonian community in the USA) where she is based. Take note of the part where Cameroonian music and attires are mentioned.
Why should a Miss Cameroon-USA doubt her attachment to Cameroonian cultural values? As a cultural Ambassador, Viniella should have been more diplomatic in her approach.
However, by granting a full-length radio interview, Miss Cameroon-USA is demystifying the old-aged myth other Cameroonian beauty queens have nursed. It is unimaginable that some previous holders of this title have been inaccessible despite efforts by journalists to have them talk.
