File: Guests at CAMIFF launch
Film lovers in Cameroon will be thrilled to a mind-blowing event when the maiden edition of the Cameroon International Film Festival, CAMIFF opens in April.
The festival that will bring together stakeholders of the cinema industry has been scheduled to hold in Buea, the chief town of the Southwest region from 24-30 April 2016, organizers announced at a press conference in Yaounde Saturday 30 January 2016.
The maiden edition of CAMIFF will showcase and present a complete immersion into the world of film making with participation from actors, directors, scriptwriters, cinematographers, sound engineers, editors, light engineers, students, equipment manufacturers and media, the CEO and founder of the festival, veteran film producer Agbor Gilbert Ebot said.
“It will be a platform where producers can connect with distributors. We intend to bring investors; people who can buy content from Cameroon and sell to the rest of the world,” Agbor Gilbert explained.
Besides the screening of movies, the festival which is supported amongst others by the Ministry of arts and Culture and the U.S Embassy in Cameroon will feature workshops and training opportunities to raise the standards of the budding Cameroon film industry.
“There would also be musical performances, seminars, and giveaways.”
Despite the marvelous knowledge widely recognize about the Cameroonian films, very few festivals do exist in the country.
“Film production is increasing in Cameroon but we have just two festivals, this festival is a wonderful initiative that will give actors and actresses in exposure,” Cameroonian actress and ambassador of the festival, Solange Yigika said rejoicing that the festival will serve as a platform for networking between local and international celebrities of the cinema world.
Ace NOLLYWOOD actor and CAMIFF ambassador, Ramsey Nouah, said he will share his 25 years experience as an actor with young Cameroonians at the festival.
“Film is universal, while on set, whether you say something or not, people will understand you,” Ramsey Nouah said.
It was disclosed at the press conference that also marked the end of the call for entries of movies that 2000 films have been submitted for screening at the festival.
The press conference was followed by a nomination party that saw the participation of officials of the Ministry of Arts and Culture, representatives of diplomatic missions amongst others.
