16 people in Cameroon killed by measles in 2014

Figures on this disease which primarily reaches children were unveiled during the opening ceremony of the annual meeting of national managers of the expanded programs of vaccination of Central Africa.

The disease which can be preventable through vaccine continue to plague Cameroonians. According to Ludovic - Etienne Mbwa, Secretary general of the Governor who represented the Governor Monday, February 23, 2015 at the opening of the annual meeting of national managers of the expanded programs of vaccination of Central Africa, 1,867 measles cases were suspected in Cameroon in 2014.

725 of them were positive while 16 people with this disease have died. With respect to yellow fever, it reported 2,634 suspected cases including 9 cases confirmed last year.

Also confirmed in 2014, was 9 cases of wild poliovirus in Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea 3, informed the administrative authority.

These figures clearly show that there is much effort to do in the prevention and treatment of vaccine-preventable diseases through vaccination on the national triangle, in particular and in the sub-region in general."

Much remains to be done for our immunization programs whose performance reach for some of the indicators does not met with the increase in the number of unvaccinated children, the persistence of the circulation of wild poliovirus, measles outbreaks of yellow fever, the number of suspects of neonatal tetanus" regretted Charlotte Ndiaye, representative of the world Organization of health in Cameroon.

At the end of the three days (from 23 to 26 February) meeting of managers of the expanded programs of vaccination of Central Africa intend to "identify the major problems" that prevent them from achieving the result you want, namely: reduce by 5% the proportion of children not immunized during the campaigns.
