A number of avoidable deaths have occurred in Bangem Subdivivion of Kupe Manenguba in Cameroon`s South West Region.

According to The Guardian Post newspaper, the reason is that the Bangem District Hospital has not had a resident medical doctor for over a month.

The paper says because of the prevailing situation , “the death toll continues to rise."

Furthermore, patients with serious medical cases can not be promptly diagnosed and transferred to the Presbyterian Hospital in Nyassaso near Tombel or another hospital that is in Nkongsamba “due to the deplorable road conditions.”

The whereabouts of the doctors that ought to be in Bangem are explained in some musical chairs fashion by The Guardian Post says the Chief Medical Officer is currently undergoing specialization in Ukraine, while the Medical Officer was transferred to the Bakassi area.

A new doctor who was appointed to the Bangem District Hospital has not yet arrived to take up his functions.
