It is part of CRC’s objective to become financially more assertive.
The Cameroon Red Cross, CRC, will in 2016, embark on major infrastructure projects aimed at raising more revenue for the movement. Among these projects is the construction of reference hospitals with the support of foreign donors and government.
Making the announcement in Yaounde on Friday, January 22, 2016, while receiving New Year wishes from staff, CRC President, William Aurelien Eteki Mboumoua, said a cultural week will be organised next May to be concluded with a fund-raising gala. He said CRC would approach the Circle of Friends of Cameroon, CERAC, which has much experience in organising similar events. Still in a bid to generate more income, CRC’s Conference Hall in Yaounde will be rehabilitated and the Henry Dunant Clinic expanded to receive more patients.
William Eteki Mboumoua also announced the imminent creation of new departments and sections, the introduction of a new organisational chart and the need to quickly update the volunteers roll. He promised health insurance for volunteers serving in the Far North Region, warned against indiscipline and absenteeism and stressed the need for the charity to continue to seek greater visibility for its activities.
Earlier, CRC’s Secretary General, Ebode Boniface, listed the achievements of 2015, noting that over 500 young volunteers were trained; with 20 volunteers confirmed as staff. With the assistance of partners, three boreholes and 60 latrines are under construction in the Far North Region. Ebode Boniface acknowledged the offer of logistics means by donors, warning staff against petition-writing.
