Bread made in Cameroon can be dangerous to your health. A survey by the Ministry of Public Health reveals that bakers use potassium bromate, a substance that causes cancer. In a report broadcasted at the 8:30 PM news on Sunday, April 24, 2016, we learn that this food additive is increasingly used in baked products.

“Studies have been conducted and have shown that it is carcinogenic bromate. That’s why the Codex Alimentarius Commission which is the international body that regulates all that is standard on food decided to end the use of bromate in bread making,” says sub director of Food to the ministry of public health, Georges Okala.

He added: “We conducted field inspections where we have seized most in many bakeries this product that I hold in hand. These are tablets they crush and they put in the flour to increase the volume of bread. ” He took the opportunity to call all the bakers to use licensed products such as yeast. The bakers when questioned deny ever using this product. One begin to expect a vigorous government intervention to save lives that are already threatened.
