The Ministry of Public Health, in collaboration with the National Order of Opticians of Cameroon (NOOC), has undertaken a control campaign of optical offices located in Cameroon.

It is clear from this campaign, which started since April this year, that many thieves pose as opticians precisely because, Cameroon does not have many.

“If we assume that, out of the 20 million Cameroonians we would need an optician per 10 000 people, in this case, the current need is 2000 certified opticians. Yet we have barely 100. We need to act on impulse," said Theodore Mbega, President of NOOC.

According to Cameroon Tribune of Monday, December 14, 2015, the NOOC took the time to explain to users the laws governing the optician during the campaign.

The order invites young people from different regions of Cameroon to submit an application for the entrance examination to the School of Optics and refraction of Yaounde.

Those who practice in private are also called to enter the continuous training cycle in cooperation with the rector of the Paris Academy.

“The state resources do not allow to host many candidates. The school receives only 16 students to date, it has already trained 32 graduates. Yet with this partnership whose training lasts 2 years, 70 candidates have been trained. It will take time to fill that void," said Theodore Mbega.
