Heart disease and stroke cases on the rise

Heart disease and stroke (cardiovascular) are growing steadily in Cameroon with more than 17,000 hypertensive patients who die each year, or 11 percent of deaths void in this country in recent years, according to statistics from the Cameroonian society of Cardiology (CSC).

The same sources reported that 24 per cent of deaths are recorded as a result of stroke, and 18 per cent of cases of sudden death in Cameroon.

There should be awareness of dietary patterns, including the reduction of the consumption of salt which would reduce by 25 per cent, the number of deaths. Moreover, the practice of sport is highly recommended as obesity, one of the risk factors, affects almost 60 percent of the female population.

Around the message "I'm young, I do not joke with my heart", makers of Cameroonian society of Cardiology, organisers of the "10 km from the heart" have visited close to twenty schools in Douala, Yaounde, Garoua and Nkongsamba for awareness on the prevention of cardiovascular diseases and thus reduce in the future death rate caused by the heart-related diseases.

With regard to the exceptional populations of Douala participation, the experience of this second edition of the baptized market + the 10 km of the heart organized by the Cameroonian society of Cardiology with the support of Bolloré Africa logistics (BAL) in Cameroon is a success ".

The awareness campaign has mobilized more than 6,000 persons, under the auspices of BAL "engaged long in equities of health, education, solidarity and protection of the environment for the benefit of Africa", indicated the leaders of this company.
