Humanitarian Support - Gov't Partners with Red Cross Cameroon

The government of Cameroon and Cameroon Red Cross signed a partnership agreement on Tuesday.

The Minister of Public Health, André Mama Fouda on behalf of the government yesterday May 15 signed a partnership agreement with the Cameroon Red Cross in the domain of medical assistance and humanitarian support to victims of armed conflicts, emergency situations and catastrophes.

The President of the Cameroon Red Cross, William Eteki Mboumoua signed for the Cameroon Red Cross in the presence of the Minister of External Relations, Pierre Moukoko Mbonjo and the Secretary of State to the Minister of Defence in charge of War Veterans and Victims, Koumpa Issa.

According to the accord, the Red Cross shall carry out its activities in favour of the population as a first aid voluntary organisation and as an auxiliary to public authorities in the humanitarian domain. The partnership agreement stipulates that the government of Cameroon amongst other things shall guarantee the protection of the financial properties of the Cameroon Red Cross, on condition that their use and destination are in conformity with the statutory missions of the Red Cross and grant full or partial exemption from taxes and custom duties of first aid materials and equipment.

Red Cross amongst other things will also act in the event of armed conflicts and even be prepared in times of peace in all domains provided for in the Geneva Convention and their additional protocols in favour of all war victims, civilians as well as the military.
