The Japanese Ambassador to Cameroon paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Public Health yesterday, June 23, 2015.

The Minister of Public Health, André Mama Fouda, granted audience to the new Japanese Ambassador to Cameroon, Kunio Okamura, in his cabinet yesterday June 23, 2015. Cooperation between Japan and Cameroon in the domain of health continues to grow from strength to strength.

In the domain of health, the Japanese government supported the Haemo-dialysis Centre of the University Teaching Hospital in Yaounde with equipment. There are plans to construct an ultramodern hospital with a capacity of 350 beds in Yaounde and another in Mfou near Yaounde, with 150 beds.

Speaking after, His Excellency Kunio Okamura, who arrived in Cameroon on June 5, 2015, said it was for courtesy following his arrival because the health sector is very important.

He said one of the priority areas will be an international conference on Maternal Healthcare Handbook which will be organised in Yaounde in September 2015 by the government of Japan and the Ministry of Public Health. The handbook enables the follow-up of nursing mothers and new-born babies until five years.

Meanwhile, Japanese volunteers are to provide technical assistance for the promotion of the Maternal Healthcare Handbook.
