Man dies of rabies after dog bite in Betare-Oya

A dog is reported to have bitten a man to death and injured four others in Bangvel village, in Betare-Oya.

The victim died shortly after in hospital after he was diagnosed of rabies.

With instruction from Divisional 0fficer for Bangvel Simon Etsil, the dog was shot to death by the local population.

He also paid an impromptu visit to the crisis site where he sympathised with the bereaved family and the four injured.

The four who were being treated traditionally have been dispatched to the Betare- oya District hospital for medical assistance as ordered by the Divisional Officer.

The Divisional Officer also used the opportunity to sensitize traditional authorities on the need to school the population on the importance of vaccinating their pets and getting rid of stray dogs.

Before the D.O left Bangvel, the villagers had already killed ten stray dogs.
