Min. of Health receives $50m for distribution of contraceptives

The Ministry of public health with the support of its technical partners and the Cameroonian association for social marketing has set aside nearly 5 million dollars for the promotion of family planning from now till the next 3 years.

The world contraception day which was celebrated September 26 was dubbed "This is your life, your future, knowing your option".

For the commemoration of this year, the Ministry of public health, the Cameroon association for social marketing (ASCM), offered a wide variety of methods and services of contraception through various products, with the aim of improving the health of vulnerable people in the country with the support of its technical and financial partners.

The goal this year was to educate the public on the importance of an informed contraceptive choice.

The range of proposals offered by CMHA, are methods of short duration (the male and female condoms) distributed under the project for the prevention of AIDS in Central Africa, the methods of long-lasting implants, intrauterine device, which are distributed under the project Profam.

For Pr Nour, Director of the division for family health at the Ministry of public health, "contraceptive methods must be put at the door of all Cameroonians, not to only reduce the increasing number of deaths of women due to complications due to poor birth spacing, but also to reduce the abortion rate among young girls.

To mark the efforts of the Government for the promotion of family planning, the Ministry of public health committed 5 million, for the promotion and the distribution of contraceptives.

Similarly, with regard to the low rate of contraception in Cameroon (5.6%), the Cameroon association for marketing encourages people to take control of their lives and their homes.
