New prison official to safeguard health

An epaulet award ceremony took place at the Douala Central Prison on Saturday. The Douala Central Prison in New Bell now has another Administrator General in the person of Djanteng Nounjio Rocard.

He was promoted to the rank to cater for the health services of the Prisonby a Prime ministerial decree of January 20, 2014, to work in tandem withEngonga Mintsang Dieudonne, who will now oversee other services of the Prison still in his capacity as Administrator General of Prisons and Registrar.

A special epaulet award ceremony took place at the premises of the Prison on Saturday. The Regional Delegate of the Penitentiary, Nono, awarded the epaulet and called on him to work with a sense of safeguarding the health of inmates and all staff under him. The new Administrator General of Prisons, Djanteng Nounjio Rocard, said the new office is a challenge and a call for him to go back to work.

“This new rank today is also a way for my hierarchy to ask me to work harder and harder.” He was recruited into the penitentiary corps in 2000. Before this time had been medical doctor since 1996. He attended the National Penitentiary School (ENAP) in Buea, whereafter he worked with the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Decentralisation in the North and Far North, then Far North, North and South West as Chief Medical Officer.

He was sent back ENAP in Buea as Chief Medical Officer and teacher. Before his appointment to the prestigious post of Administrator General for Prisons for theDouala Central Prison last January, Rocard he had been working there since August 2012 as Chief Medical Officer and Regional Chief in the Penitentiary Administration for the Littoral. The 45-year-old Rocard is married and has children.
