Rush for free israeli cataract surgery in Bamenda

The 8th Eye Treatment Camp is ongoing to improve and restore vision for many.

Israeli Ophthalmologists working at the Centre of the 8th Eye Camp in the Bamenda Regional Hospital have brought hopes to many patients with eye defects. People, as old as 80 years, have been giving life-changing stories that the campaign has improved their sights and restored their lives.

In effect, the Israeli Eye Camp that started on July 17 and runs till 26, 2012 is celebrated as a great event in the North West Region. Within the first two days, some 120 patients enrolled to benefit from the largesse. Launching the exercise in Bamenda on July 19, 2012, the Israeli Ambassador, H.E Miki Arbel said it was all about sharing knowledge with the government of Israel committed to ensure that Cameroon's Doctors are adequately trained to continue with operations after the 8th Eye Camp. North West Governor, Adolphe Lele Lafrique found in the Eye Camp "the fruit of international cooperation and friendly relations between Cameroon and Israel with inhabitants of the North West as beneficiaries".

In all, there are three Israeli ophthalmologists and a nurse at the service of patients. The daily process begins with screening to confirm pathology and determine suitability for surgery. Plastic Surgeries in and around the eye are also on the agenda.

The 8th Eye Camp in Bamenda comes on the heels of previous Camps that took place at the Yaounde Centre hospital, at the Laquintinie hospital in Douala and the Centre Hospitalier d'Essos, Yaounde.
