Sangmelima Referral Hospital to get Tunisian doctors

The Tunisian government is set to step up health cooperation with Cameroon. Speaking in Yaounde on Wednesday, February 25, 2015, after meeting the Minister of Public Health, Andre Mama Fouda, the Tunisian Ambassador to Cameroon, His Excellency Abderrazak Landoulsi, announced that a Tunisian company is overseeing the quality of construction works at the Sangmelima Referral Hospital in the South Region.

Ambassador Landoulsi, who came to bid farewell to Andre Mama Fouda after concluding his tour of duty in the country, also announced that preparations were underway for the signing of a deal under which Tunisian experts will help in managing the Sangmelima Referral Hospital while Tunis will post specialist doctors there.

Meanwhile, Tunisia and Cameroon are seeking funding for the proper running of the hospital, he disclosed.

The outgoing Tunisian diplomat restated that much has been accomplished during his tenure, including medical evacuation to Tunisian private and public hospitals for Cameroonian patients under the terms of an agreement signed in 2012.

Also, Tunisian drugs are now available on the Cameroonian market, with investments by his countrymen in drug production in the country.

Similarly, Tunisian experts will soon arrive in the country to help rehabilitate a drug manufacturing plant in Douala, Abderrazak Landoulsi disclosed.

The Egyptian Ambassador, His Excellency Shérif Salah Eldine Elleithy, was also received by the Minister of Public Health. He said he came to explore the possibility of enhancing health ties between Egypt and Cameroon.

Egyptian medical doctors, he revealed, would like to offer their services in Cameroon and also gain some experience. The Ambassador announced that preparations were underway to inaugurate a four-bed ward equipped by Egyptian doctors at the Yaounde General Hospital.
