HIV/AIDS infection continues to be a major cause for concern in the society. The fourth Demographic and Health Survey carried out in 2011 shows that Cameroon is still hit by the pandemic with a prevalence rate of 5.1 per cent - 6.8 per cent among women and 4.1 per cent among men.
Women and young girls continue to be the most-affected. It is for this reason that a two-day workshop to validate the "Women-Families" Sector Plan to fight HIV/AIDS and Sexually Transmissible Diseases (STDs) for 2013-2015, opened in Yaounde yesterday November 14, 2012.
Speaking at the occasion, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and the Family, Moussa Aoudou, said the "Women-Families" Sector Plan for 2013-2015 is in line with the ministry's road map. He called on participants to work hand-in-glove in order to come out with a specific sector plan for the fight against AIDS which will provide answers to the pandemic among women.
The "Women-Families" Sector Plan 2013-2015 contains opportunities which can contribute to an effective and efficient manner of fighting HIV/AIDS and STDs. During the workshop, participants will discuss issues such as the poor knowledge of the fight by actors, sexual taboos in Cameroonian families as well as insufficient coordination and follow up, among others.
