Mounangue Siliki who was designated for the Yaounde General Hospital embezzlement trial died recently in Yaounde following an illness.
The case pitting the State of Cameroon and the Yaounde General Hospital against François Xavier Sandji has taken a different twist. The tenth hearing took place at the Special Criminal Court in Yaounde on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 in Yaounde.
After the verification of the prosecution and defence counsels, Advocate General, Didier Edjisna told the court that reliable sources had informed the court earlier that Mounangue Siliki, an expert chosen from the list of approved experts by the Mfoundi Court of Appeal, died recently in Yaounde following an illness. As such, Didier Edjisna submitted that the court should give the civil bench time to look for another expert.
Presiding Judge, Mr Justice Francis Moukoury, took note of the death of Mounanga Siliki and designed the Director of Stores Accounting in the Ministry of Finance to replace late Mounanga Siliki. The case was adjourned to January 6, 2014 pending clarification of the expert. Mounanga Siliki was expected to clarify the court on the cost of ice cream kits which allegedly cost FCFA 2.6 million per kit, giving a total of FCFA 53 million for the 20 kits allegedly misappropriated. Following the absence of the expert, the case has been repeatedly adjourned pending his expert testimony. Mounanga Siliki was important because both parties have not been able to come to an agreement on the amount given by the civil bench.
The embezzlement case against François Sandji was taken to the Mfoundi Court of First Instance on September 28, 2008. Earlier on August 26, 2008, the Yaounde General Hospital filed a complaint against the Speedi Multiservices company headed by François Sandji for the embezzlement of kitchen equipment worth over FCFA 77 million. The equipment was used following an agreement of August 12, 2002 linking peedi Multiservices to the Yaounde General Hospital. The objective was to use the equipment to supply food to patients.
