Mfou — All is well that ends well and the long buildup to September 30, 2013 local elections will now be celebrated in the Nyong & So'o and Mefou & Afamba Divisions in the Centre Region where votes were cast in total fairness and tranquility, according to administrative authorities, political party leaders and observers.
The Divisional Officer for Nyong & So'o, Mariel Emmanuel Djikdent, voted at 10:15 a.m and told Cameroon Tribune later that by 8 a.m, all the 274 polling stations in the division were open. Out of 71 polling centres in the Mbalmayo divisional headquarters, he was pleased to witness queues at some, which to him was a show of maturity. Emmanuel Djikdent said "I was also happy with the fluidity of the exercise in some polling stations and in all, no major incident was recorded".
The National President of 'Action pour le meritocratie et l'Egalité de chance,' (AMEC), Joachim Tabi Owono, lone challenger of the ruling CPDM in legislative in the division, was on hand at the Mbalmayo Town Hall polling centre to praise the organisation of the polls, saying ELECAM is gradually proving its worth and he was giving them a vote of confidence.
By 2 pm, over 60 per cent of votes were already cast in polling centre "A" of the Mbalmayo Town Hall, said Christian Mendo, the President of the polling station.
At 6:00 p.m in Mfou in the Mefou & Afamba Division, it was the use of sign language to indicate the end of polls, an unfortunate scene for some late comers who had just arrived for voting. All vote counting material was already assembled as party representatives and observers took positions to witness the exercise. The Divisional Officer, Mbemi Nyaknga and aides, made rounds to polling stations to witness the exercise. In all, 78 polling stations were spread all over the division with over 16,250 voters expected to cast votes.
