Bill to revise Cameroon's Penal Code under scrutiny

A Bill to revise the Cameroon’s Penal Code has been presented before the National Assembly this Monday 13th June 2016 for Scrutiny.

This was during a plenary seating chaired by one of the Vice Presidents of the National Assembly.

The document which is divided into two parts consists some major developments in the Cameroon’s Judicial System.

Some of the latest developments include:

- The criminalization of immoral behaviors exhibited by men.

- Trafficking of persons as slaves has been criminalized

- A Ban from exercising professional activities or not being gender sensitive.

Meanwhile in the present Penal code, Homosexuality remains punishable.

The latest changes were deemed necessary by authorities concerned whose preoccupations are geared towards making the Penal code more efficient and relevant; suitable for international standard.

The bills were set before the Committee of constitutional law, Human Rights and Freedom, Justice, Legislature, Standing orders and Administration for examination; to be defended by the Minister of State, Minister of Justice and Keeper of the Seals Laurant Esso.
