CPDM, SDF Show Strength in North West

Fri, 4 Oct 2013 Source: Cameroon Tribune

The ruling party and opposition, SDF shared the North West Region.

From the look of things, the status quo may be respected after the September 30, 2013 council elections in the North West region.

Echoes from the 34 councils of the region indicate that the ruling CPDM has penetrated some councils in some major towns while the opposition, SDF party has recovered lost grounds in some rural areas. As at press time, the Bamenda II Council Supervisory committee, declared the SDF winner of the Bamenda II council with 73.4 percent from 23,090 votes as against 24.69 per cent from 7,720 votes for the CPDM.

Unable to confirm results made public by other council supervisory commissions, Cameroon Tribune got it from the corridors that the SDF retained the Bamenda III Council while the CPDM registered victory in Bamenda 1. Both political parties demonstrated strength, grabbing virtually all councils but for litigation in some.

This is the talk on the streets as the population awaits the confirmation of results. It is also reported that the ruling CPDM has grabbed all the councils in Ngoketunjia Division, while the SDF has emerged stronger in the council areas of Jakiri, Nkor, Ndu, Furu Awa, Bafut, Batibo, Belo, Njinikom, etc. The CPDM on the other hand showed strength in Andek, Widikum, Njikwa, Mbengwi, Fonfuka, Fundong, Elak, Mbiame, Misaje, Nkambe, Wum, Bali etc.
