The former Secretary General of SDF has produced a document to explain her decision to resign on February 14, 2015.
“Since taking office in 2006, I have been subject to repeated disrespect and humiliation, publicly and privately, from across the board by the party cadres,” resigning Chief Scribe of the Social Democratic Front (SDF) party, Prof. Mrs Elizabeth Tamajong has said in a document explaining her decision to resign on February 14, 2015.
While the party leadership met in a National Executive Council (NEC) over the weekend in Bamenda, North West Region, acknowledged that the resignation of Prof. Tamajong, several party officials are still expressing surprise at her decision.
“We discussed just a few days before the meeting and she showed no sign that she had such an intention,” SDF’s National Communication Secretary, Anembom Monju, told Cameroon Tribune on a phone chat on February 15, 2015.
In an exchange with CT in Yaounde on February 16, 2015, Prof. Mrs Tamajong handed over the document titled “My Stewardship as Secretary General of the SDF,” in which, besides decrying the departure by the party from its initial ideology, she showcased instances of alleged humiliation by party officials, especially SDF Chairman, Ni John Fru Ndi.
On Pages Seven, Eight and Nine of the document, Mrs Tamajong says on the occasion of a visit to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) facilities in 2011, “the National Chairman pushed my hands as I attempted to reach across a document to the then 2nd Vice National Chairman, Joshua Osih.”
At a public rally in Kumba, the same year, she recounts, the National Chairman rudely ordered her to take out chewing gum from her mouth. “My signature as Secretary General has been repeatedly and publicly challenged by party officials, to the knowledge and acquiescence of the National Chairman,” she alleged.
Mrs Tamajong also disclosed that the dates of NEC meetings, as well as the agenda, were normally fixed by the Secretary General in consultation with the National Chairman. “But recently, such meetings, namely the last two in Buea and Bamenda, have been summoned with complete disregard of the Secretary General,” she held.
She was reportedly replaced as statutory signatory to the party’s bank account without even being informed, in violation of Section 13.5 (d) of the Party Constitution.
Furthermore, during the 2012 Elective Convention, she claimed to have been unjustifiably labeled in front of over 1,500 delegates as being ‘stubborn.’ “The National Chairman even openly threatened to use his constitutional powers to sack me from my post just by the stroke of his pen,” she lamented on Page Nine of the document.
Prof. Mrs Elizabeth Tamajong officially joined the SDF party in 1991 and held several posts before being appointed Secretary General in 2006.
