Impressive Participation of Political Parties for Voters' Registration in Yaounde

The Joint Voters' Registration Commissions are at work since the launch of registration. The Joint Voters' Registration Commission for Mfoundi Division, Yaounde by Monday, October 8, 2012 had 152 members, 131 being representatives of political parties and 21 representing the administration, mayors and Elections Cameroon (ELECAM) Council branches.

The Mfoundi Divisional Delegate of ELECAM, Ehongo Bessala told Cameroon Tribune yesterday, October 8 as he inspected the operation and further said more political parties are still to send representatives to the Joint Commissions currently ensuring the biometric recompilation of voters' register in each of the seven council areas of Yaounde.

At the Yaounde III ELECAM Council Branch office, the Branch head, Mvondo Sylvestre Désiré had a contact and preparatory meeting with commission members, and disclosed that the mobile teams will as from the coming Monday start the recompilation operation of voters' register on the field. He said the Commission had 21 members, 18 of them representing political parties and one each representing the administration, mayor and ELECAM. Mvondo Sylvestre said there were no major problems as yet as all commission members were actively participating. Their meeting was characterized by conviviality.

The ELECAM Council Branch head for Yaounde VI, Aboubakar Garba on his part declared that so far, there were over 700 registered voters in his office. He further said 20 political parties were represented in the Joint Voters' Registration Commission to ensure the strict implementation of the law in the registration process.

By Saturday, October 6, more than 4,000 voters had registered in Yaounde, ELECAM Divisional Delegate Ehongo Bessala said, expressing satisfaction that each registration kit was used to register more than the expected number of voters. Mfoundi Division, he stated, so far, has 34 registration kits. Yaounde II, III, IV, V and VI Councils each has five kits, Yaounde I Council six and Yaounde VII three. In the Yaounde III and Yaounde VI Elections Cameroon Council Branch offices visited, registration was going on smoothly with each voter making all efforts to ensure that all stages were properly done. There was no hustle and bustle but potential voters trickled in and registered.
