Jonas Mbah Acha, husband of the new Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of the Supreme State Audit Office, Mbah Acha Fomundam Rose is no longer member of Cameroon’s main opposition party, the Social Democratic Front (SDF).
On October 7, only five days after President Biya appointed his wife into the government of Friday, October 2, he submitted his resignation letter to the Tiko SDF Electoral District Chairman, Daniel Moukondo through a bailiff and asked that the letter be forwarded to the SDF national secretariat in Ntarikon, Bamenda.
Jonas Mbah’s resignation is a blow to the John Fru Ndi’s SDF. Until his resignation, he was the Minister in charge of Public Works and Transport in the SDF Shadow Cabinet. He was also a member of the executive organ of the Social Democratic Front, the National Executive Committee (NEC).
The resignation letter curiously, was backdated to January 2, but Jonas Mbah waited until the appointment of his wife into government before submitting it to the local SDF party officials.
Titled, “Jonas Mbah Acha resignation of membership from the SDF,” he wrote, “His Excellency, since 2014 I stopped attending meetings of the SDF. I notified the ward chair of my resignation from the Social Democratic Front.” The resignation letter gave no further details on reasons for the resignation and Jonas Mbah also refused to tell the press the motives behind the resignation.
Without giving reasons for the resignation, the SDF Tiko Electoral Chairman, Daniel Moukondo confirmed to have been served with the resignation letter by a Sheriff-bailiff. “My role is just to transmit the letter to the party hierarchy,” he said and added that, “When I read through the letter, I saw that he had resigned from the SDF party.
Only one thing came to my mind; that his wife was appointed minister a few days ago, perhaps this is what has prompted this reason.” As to whether Jonas Mbah has joined another party, probably Biya’s ruling CPDM, Moukondo said, “He just resigned but did not say whether or not he has joined another party. To me, we have lost a Shadow Cabinet Minister.”
