The 2016 plenary session apart from authorizing President Paul Biya to ratify the Paris declaration on Climate change, was dedicated to some seven Members of Government from the following Ministries: Tourism, Agriculture, Basic Education, Communication Water and Energy, Environment and Finance.
The Minister of State in charge of Tourism and Leisure, Bello Bouba Maïgari, was the first to be questioned on the impact of the Boko Haram threats on tourism in the Far North Region. He was questioned by Senator, Pierre Flambeau Ngayap.
In response to this, Mr. Bello Bouba said apart from the tourism sector, the agriculture, education and health sectors have also been heavily affected. He also lauded Government’s efforts for ensuring security of the entire population through the armed forces. And concluded that measures to promote internal Tourism are already in the pipe line since foreigners have been advised to stay away from the Far North Region.
Moreover, the Minister of Agriculture Henri Eyebe Ayissi in responding to the question on food security in the Far North Region mentioned the Head of State’s special food donation of 12 billion FCFA and the development of production zones in the Region.
Questioning about the imbalance in the use of the two official languages, even with the numerous translators doted everywhere around the country the Minister of Communication Issa Tchiroma Bakary mentioned the effective use of bilingualism in his press conferences, and the National Daily Publication Cameroon Tribune.
The issue of the non-posting of French language teachers to some schools situated in remote areas such as the Akwaya sub-division of the South West Region was clarified by the Minister of Basic Education, Youssouf Adidja Alim.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Water and Energy Basile Atangana Kouna explained various measures taken by his Ministry to handle the issue of water and electricity shortages. He said errors in the billing systems should be reported to the service providers.
The Minister of Finance, Alamine Ousmane Mey, and that of Environment and Nature Protection, Helé Pierre also provided answers on pressing issues in their Ministries.
