The Littoral Regional Delegate for Social Affairs drew attention to the situation of children in the northern part of Cameroon.

The Week of the African Child ended in Douala on June 16, 2016, with calls on all and sundry to rigorously combat early marriages, genital mutilation, child labour and other abuses perpetrated against children below 18 years.

Various administrative, civil society and traditional stakeholders, as well as children, made calls in Douala during the official ceremony to mark the end of the Week of the African Child.

Commemorated on the theme: “Conflict and crisis in Africa: Let’s protect the rights of children,” the week witnessed a series of awareness-raising and educational activities, including the selection of nine Junior Members of Parliament from Wouri Division.

They presented their Attestations of Participation in the 17th session of the Children’s Parliament on the theme: “25 years after the adoption of the African Charter: Accelerating our collective efforts to end child marriage in Africa,” in the National Assembly in Yaounde.

Also, parents were sensitised on the protection of children against violation of their rights.

During the closing ceremony in the Banquet Hall of the Littoral Governor’s Office, the children, through their spokesperson, made the double call for all children to pay special homage to the Chibok girls abducted by Boko Haram terrorists in Nigeria and to the authorities in Littoral Region to ensure that children are specially assisted.
