Frontline militants of the Cameroon Peoples’ Democratic Movement (CPDM) who nursed ambitions to hold positions at the basic level of the party in the 2015 reorganisation exercise but crashed out of the race, boycotted a reconciliation meeting on Monday, January 25, 2016.

The meeting, organised by the Section President of CPDM Meme IB, Jacob Mbatchou Kay, was aimed at mending differences brought about by the controversial reorganisation exercise.

During the exercise, the Kumba II Section had three lists that battled for the Section President position.

The lists were later reduced to two, but since the results were made public, many had expected that the meeting will set a pace for other Sections to reconcile.

Militants such as Barrister Philip Awutah Atubah and Nasirou, his list leader in the elections, were absent.

In an interview with reporters after the meeting, the Section President admitted that before the elections, the Section was in two camps, but that the meeting was needed because the CPDM is a party of inclusion. Mbatchou averred that, in the CPDM, there are no losers and winners.

On the absence of the list leaders, he said they do no really matter. According to him, what matters is the militants, who are the real owners of the party. Going by him, those present during the reconciliation meeting will carry the message to the list leaders.

Mbatchou told the militants that the CPDM in Meme IB is going to be operating under a banner of 'New Look'. He declared that with the current mandate bestowed on him, many things are going to change within the party in the section.

According to him, militants should get to the field, capture new militants and start preparations for the Youth Day celebration. Added to the Youth Day agenda, the Section President said more actions will be initiated towards achieving victory in forthcoming elections.

The section boss boasted that many new strategies have been devised by the new executive to make great exploits.

Speaking earlier, the Youth Section President, Macmillan Sako, told the militants that the challenge was resting on the youth to redynamise the party. He preached unity, peace and love among militants as virtues which will enable them get more militants. Sako averred that the victory of the new executive was victory for the entire Section and not a particular individual.

Another section executive member, Barrister Andy Tabi, charged the youth wing of the party to choose accountability if they expect all projects to be executed as planned. Tabi urged them to be transparent in the management of resources put at their disposal. This, he went on, will cause militants to support the party activities with strong interest.

At the close of the meeting, over FCFA 200,000 was raised as part of funds needed for a befitting outing of the youth wing of the party during the forthcoming Youth Day celebrations.
