Over 500 people representing the Mbonge clan in Meme, Southwest Region, are expected to send a motion of support to President Biya to endorse him for the next presidential election.
The Mbonges, will be converging at Big Ngwandi this weekend under the banner of the Mbonge Cultural and Development Organisation, MECDO, to elect a new leader.
Justice Abednego Bea Kala, MECDO President has headed the association for over five years and is now considering stepping down for a new team to take over.
The decision of the judge to step down comes amid calls from some Mbonge elite for him to take another mandate.
The Ngwandi Congress of MECDO is the 42nd edition.
The congress marks the annual assembly where major development and political decisions are taken on behalf of the clan.
All 44 villages that make up the clan are set for a huge participation.
In the last edition of the congress organized at Big Nganjo, the political message was for all sons and daughters of the clan to throw their weight behind the ideas and institutions of President Biya.
On the economic front, the Mboonge clan has been in a major battle with middlemen who exploit cocoa farmers. In this light, actions are expected to be strengthened towards the announced creation of producer cooperatives.
The cooperative idea, according to the MECDO President, is going to help the farming population to sell their crops at better prices.
In 2015, the congress focused on "Mbonge and Higher Education," with hundreds of scholarships given to children of Mbonge origin in higher institutions of learning across the nation.
The congress that had earlier on been programmed for January suffered a postponement following the sudden death of the Mayor of Mbonge Council, Chief William Ekong.
