Manidem plans resistance against the law on terrorism

The opposition party asked Paul Biya not to promulgate the law against terrorism but organize a wide-ranging debate.

In response to the adoption of the law on terrorism, the political party Manidem (African movement for the new independence and democracy) gave a press conference Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at its headquarters in Douala.

Its executives announced that in January 2015 they will organize resistance against the law on terrorism if it is enacted. "We need to organize the people to fight against this law, Biya should back off," said the national president Dieudonné Yebga.

Manidem indicated without irony that “to facilitate the task of the regime, we declare ourselves terrorist”.

For the leaders of this party, "the term terrorist is a catchall term. They explain that Paul Biya puts them in a situation where they have no choice.

'You accept being dominated, or we kill you', reacted former president Anicet Ekanè. "If Biya promulgated this Act, it is sure we will end up in the street. He should then shoot us" warned the Vice-Chairman of the Manidem, Valentin Dongmo.

Manidem therefore asked Paul Biya "not to promulgate the law on the Suppression of terrorism but organize a wide debate on the issue.

Manidem announced another press conference for Friday, December 19, 2014 in connection with the law on terrorism. It will be surrounded by other members of other parties of the platform that they have jointly set up.
