After losing all the four local council and two parliamentary seats in Menchum Division of the North West Region in the 2007 elections to the Cameroon People's Democratic Movement, CPDM, the opposition Social Democratic Front, SDF is now determined to conquer its lost political ground.

Speaking on phone on Tuesday, September 17, 2013, to Cameroon Tribune from the Menchum divisional headquarters, Wum, Mrs. Ewi Elizabeth, parliamentary candidate for Menchum South Constituency, said their slogan is "Menchum, together we can make it!" She said campaigns were launched on September 15, 2013 in Wum. The party, she disclosed, has formed different teams for divisional and district campaigns as well as others for parliamentary and village-level electioneering. A special Socialist Women's Action campaign team has also swung into action, wooing the votes of the division's womenfolk, Ewi explained.

As part of campaign efforts, the party has paid the PTA fees of Fulani school children in Waindo Lake Nyos Resettlement Camp near Wum and 40 other pupils in Bawuro that recently experienced conflict. Ewi Elizabeth, popularly known in the area as 'Iron lady' or 'Mother of mothers,' was on September 17, 2013 in Menchum Valley Subdivision, trekking to the remote community of Batomo where she and her team talked to local people.

On the other hand, the SDF parliamentary candidate for Menchum North Constituency, Ndong Larry Hills, has already visited villages located on the other side of River Katsina Ala. Though the division has been split into two for easier electioneering coordination, the two parliamentary candidates will as from next week begin campaigning together as they present the message of change that the party says is only possible if the people work together to unseat the CPDM.
