The 8th elective ordinary convention of the Social Democratic Front (SDF) that took place in Bamenda last weekend is now history. Curtains dropped on the event on October 14, 1012 with a new team elected to steer the leading opposition party for the next four years in their struggle to grab political power in Cameroon.
In effect, the incumbent, Ni John Fru Ndi was retained as National Chairman. He ran unchallenged and picked 1219 votes from a total of 1431 scoring 87 percent of the votes cast. Joshua Osih, the hitherto second Vice Chairman from the South West won 977 votes against 225 for Evariste Fopoussi from the West to rise to the position of first National Vice Chairman, while Tchatchouang Paul from the West, Mahop Scholastique from the Centre, Birwie Gregoire and Hourie Ibrahim from the North lined up as second, third, fourth and fifth Vice Chairmen.
Sonkin Etiene from the West was elected to replace late Augustin Mbami as Treasurer with Atekwana Joseph Akonji as assistant. Ngankam Tchebongson, also from the West emerged as the National Secretary for Education and Training, while Hon. Yoyo Emmanuel from the North West and Ngounou Jacob from the Littoral were elected National Financial Secretary and Assistant respectively. Beatrice Anembom Munjo from the North West retained the position of National Secretary for Communication. A commission was created to handle the case of the post of National Organising Secretary, the candidates Asapngu Ferdinand and Vanigansen Mochiggle protested the results.
