Nigerian security students visit National Assembly

A delegation of several trainees from the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) in Abuja, Nigeria undertook a study visit to the National Assembly on Friday July 22, 2016.

Briefing members of the delegation on the functioning of the house, the First Deputy Secretary General of the National Assembly, Abdoulaye Daouda, pointed out that the National Assembly, the older of the country’s two legislative institutions, is composed of 180 Members of Parliament (MPs) from seven political parties, a permanent bureau of 24 members and two parliamentary groups.

The ISS delegation, which included the Director of the Institute, M.B. Seiyefa, also learnt that the MPs are assisted in their functions by a parliamentary administration headed by a Secretary General and by two deputies. More so, the National Assembly owns a Training Centre for Parliamentary Administration.

“This visit will contribute in strengthening the excellent ties that unite our two countries,” said Abdoulaye Daouda during the discussions which took place in the “Augustine Ngom Jua” Commissions Hall of the National Assembly. The visit ended with a guided tour of the National Assembly.
