The erstwhile People’s Action Party (PAP), whose leadership and ownership has been contested lately, has been renamed as Popular Action Party (PAP) by Ayah Paul Abine.

He disclosed the new name of the party on June 11, 2016, in a press conference in Buea. During the press outing, Ayah also clarified public opinion on the creation of the party stating that it is not an estate of late Prof. Victor Ngoh Mukwelle as claimed by some of his family members.

The President of PAP also denied haven embezzled funds that were given to the party by the State during the 2011 Presidential election explaining that the money was spent on several campaign trips he undertook as well as campaign materials.

The press conference came on the heels of criticism by a group of persons who claimed to have dismissed Ayah from the party over embezzlement of party funds.
