Four political parties have agreed to jointly face all other challengers in the September 30, 2013, twin council and legislative elections in the country. The platform, led by leaders of the parties, noted during a news conference in the port city of Douala on September 7 that the organisation of the elections is marked by several difficulties. To respond effectively to them, the Cameroon People's Party (CPP), the Cameroon Democratic Union (UDC), the Alliance of Progressive Forces (AFP), and the Union of the Population of Cameroon (UPC) constituted themselves into platform under the "Enough is enough, let's clean Cameroon and construct a new Republic".
Speaking at the news event, Edith Kahbang Walla of CPP, Adamou Ndam Njoya of UDC and representatives of AFP and UPC, were unanimous that about their determination to obtain victory in all constituencies in which their parties will participate in the elections. Founded on unity and solidarity, the main focus of the platform, they said, is to secure seats in Parliament as well as mayors of the parties across councils. One of their strategies is to partake in the fight against corruption and other social ills in the country.
According to preamble of the platform, some of their purposes are to significantly improve on the conditions of life and purchasing power of the Cameroonian population, build a new citizenship spirit among Cameroonians and eliminate all electoral frauds. Each of the parties will have a specific constituency in the elections:
Concerning council elections, CPP will be the sole party vying in Douala I Subdivision, UDC in Douala II, UPC in Douala III, AFP in Douala IV, UPC in Douala V and UPC in Bafoussam. As to legislative elections, only UDC will vie in the Wouri Centre, UPC in the Wouri South and UPC in the Wouri East. Meanwhile, only UPC will take part in the legislative election in the Mifi, West Region, according to terms of the platform.
