A recent move by the Section President of Cameroon Peoples’ Democratic Movement, CPDM, Meme I B, to mobilise his militants to carry out a march across the Sub Division against the Islamic Sect, Boko Haram, and to pledge support to the Cameroon Army was rendered fruitless as only 24 CPDM militants showed up to carry out the exercise.
Despite the numerous sensitisations through the media done by the Section President, Jacob Kay Mbachu, and the YCPDM Section President, Gabriel Ayamelong, CPDM militants failed to heed to their call despite the importance of the exercise.
After waiting for more than four hours beyond the initial kick off time, only 24 CPDM militants were noticed in front of the Kumba II Divisional Office. Out of embarrassment, the 24 militants engaged in the march, without covering the targeted areas.
This reporter learned that the Meme Administration expressed great dissatisfaction at the attitude of the organisers, who failed to involve other stakeholders like the civil society, administration and other political parties. Others blamed the failure on the lack of unity and collaboration amongst the Section President and his executive and the in-fighting that has rocked the party since their failure in the last elections.
Another set of militants said it that the boycott was intended to frustrate the activities of the incumbent Section President, such that he will be booted out during the upcoming party reorganisation.
But according to Jacob Kay Mbachu, his intentions had nothing to do with reorganisation or remaining in office. He said the move was intended to boost the morale of the army, while at the same time denouncing Boko Haram.
