Remarkable Presence of Political Barons At National Assembly

Many key parliamentarians in the previous legislative periods have been re-elected.

Hon. Cavaye Yeguie Djibril, the Speaker of the National Assembly since the legislative election of March 1992 that held after the re-introduction of multi-party democracy in Cameroon, Hon Ndongo Essomba Jean Bernard, long serving Parliamentary Group leader of the ruling Cameroon People's Democratic Movement, CPDM, Hon. Mbah Ndam Joseph Njang, former Vice President of the House and committed supporter of the opposition Social Democratic Front, SDF, are some of the household names that will remain in the Lower House of Parliament up to 2018. They were re-elected on September 30, 2013 legislative election to serve another five-year term of office.

Many of President Paul Biya's ruling CPDM MPs, members of the previous bureaus of the House have been voted back. Hon. Etong Hilarion, First Vice President of the House for the last two terms, Vice Presidents Baoro Théophile and Monjowa Lifaka Emilia, long serving Chairperson of the Constitutional Committee, Zondol Herssesse and Secretary Manamourou épse Silikam are coming back. The CPDM Vice Parliamentary Group leader Mary Muyali Boya épse Meboka from Ndian , Chairperson of the Committee on Finance and Budget, Moutymbo épse Ayayi Rosette Julienne as well as Mboui Joseph who in the absence of Hon. P.C. Fonso, was the eldest Member of the National Assembly from 2007 to 2013, have all been re-elected.

In the Social Democratic Front, SDF, the former Questor Audu Mbaya Cyprian who will be serving his fourth term of office in the National Assembly, the outgoing SDF Parliamentary Group leader, Banadzem Joseph Lukong, as well as the Chairperson of the Committee on Social and Cultural Affairs, Ngala Esther Ntala have been voted back.

Tomaino Ndam Njoya Hermine Patricia, one of the Secretaries in the eighth legislative period will be coming back as Cameroon Democratic Union, CDU representative for Noun Centre constituency. In the Union des populations du Cameroun, UPC, there is also the remarkable come back of Sende Pierre in the Nyong et Kelle constituency in the Centre Region. He was parliamentarian in the seventh legislative period that ran from 2002 to 2007.
