The Provincial Chairman of the Social Democratic Front and MP of Fundong, Hon Evaristus Njong, has told the people of Donga-Mantung that like Parliamentarians, Senators are also given FCFA 8million as micro-project grants, as such, the people should hold their Senator to account for the grants.
Hon Njong was addressing some 700 delegates at the SDF District Conference that took place in Nkambe recently.
While appreciating the rapid development drive in the area championed by Hons Cyprain Awudu Mbaya and Esther Ngala Ntala, Hon Njong said the FCFA 8 million given to the Senator of Donga-Mantung must be used to develop the division, since the money was given to him on behalf of the people.
The SDF Provincial Chair said the people are justified to hold Senator Stephen Njikong to account for his own micro-project grants.
Hon Njong made this statement after the people of Donga-Mantung accused Senator Njikong of sidelining some part of the Division during his homecoming by visiting only Councillors of the CPDM councils and gaving scholarships only to students from these councils.
The MP for Fundong said most of the CPDM MPs and Senators would rather save the money which has been given to them to carry out development projects and use it during future elections to corrupt the minds of the electorate.
The Provincial Chair said the raison d’être of the Nkambe District Conference was to reignite in the SDF militants the party spirit of 1990 when it was first founded. This spirit, he went on, called for total patriotism; faith in the party’s doctrine and hierarchy.
“It is time for the SDF party to take over power in Cameroon and that is why it is imperative for us to go back and reignite the 1990 spirit of the party.
We must discreetly get back to define the structures of the party especially at the grassroots as dictated by the slogan “Power to the people.’
The wards would be empowered and any militant must belong to a ward and identify as active before he could be qualified to run for any election,” he said; emphasising that women must belong to the Socialist Women, while the youths to the Socialist Youth.
He described the Socialist Youths as the ‘Sunday-School’ of the party, where the youth would be well nourished with the party doctrine.
In a presentation on Governance, Hon Njong described the CPDM party as a group of “crooks and trouble-makers” who are ahead of any crime and trouble even in the villages.
According to him, Government spent over 38 billion on the CPDM party alone during campaigns, “that is why prices of basic commodities like fuel are experiencing price hike, and the masses are the most affected.”
He further condemned the suspension of some lead Examiners from Cameroon, the GCE Board activities, because they assisted at the launch the SDF Chairman, Ni John Fru Ndi offered to Examiners in Bamenda last June. “These are actions of a Government of bad faith,” he said.
Earlier, the Nkambe District Chair, Wilfred Mbeh Shey, boasted that the SDF has over155 wards in the Division; he promised that after the re-organisation, the number would double. He said Nkambe like Donga-Mantung remains the fate of the SDF, despite attempts by some vicious politicians who are using crude means to confuse party members.
