The Steering Committee of the Union of the peoples of Cameroon (UPC) protested against growing insecurity at the headquarters of political parties and human rights organizations.
The secretariat of the Steering Committee of the Union of the peoples of Cameroon (UPC), indicated since decades, investigations concerning the burglary of the headquarters of associations and political parties had not been aborted according to a declaration.
In this declaration, supporters of the UPC and faithfuls required serious police investigations which lead to clear results. They urged associations, political parties or other human grouping in Cameroon not to give in to threats and intimidation and called on all the men and women who love justice to condemn all the maneuvers to stifle the voices of democracy and respect for human rights.
What justifies this output is the recent robbery on the premises of the associative network of defenders of human rights in Central Africa (Redhac). Indeed, according to well-informed sources, eight individuals with some openly armed with pistols arrived on 3 bikes, and vandalised the Redhac offices.
In addition, according Redhac the so-called thugs searched all cabinets, emptied all of the drawers, spilled and scattered their content, carefully ripped all envelopes, took all digital flat screen TVs and a large sum of money intended to pay the household bills. "But the obvious reasons for their visit, was the search of information and for this reason they stole their laptops, "digital cameras, with their memory cards and most importantly, 3 important files on cases of violations of the rights of persons", said employees at the headquarters of Redhac not far from Total Bali in Douala.
The investigations into this burglary at Redhac (the fourth of its kind) have not yielded any fruit, prompting the party to make wishes as said above. "We have gathered because we feel and are concerned by the aggression at Redhac.
Note that, the Union of the peoples of Cameroon has also been a victim of burglaries to which investigations have never been fruitful. Not to mention many other organizations in the same situation", emphasize Alexis Ndema Same, president of UPC and Albert Moutoudou, Secretary-General of the abovementioned political party.
