Beautiful Gasha took the time off to talk on us about her life, music career and success. Enjoy the conversation below.
Q: Hello Gasha it has been a long time coming and we are happy talking to you. When did you start singing?
A: I think I started singing as soon as I was born *laughs*. Well I went professional about three years ago.
Q: Did your family encourage you? If No, why?
A: Initially as it is with any normal loving family, it was hard to accept but now they are my biggest fans.
Q: Who inspire you musically?
A: I listen to all genres of music. It should just be beautiful. I listen to a lot of Oldies. Sam Cooke (that should be obvious with “there he goes’) Tracy Chapman, Bleachers, Fun, Miriam Makeba, Black Mambazo, Richard Bona, Wes Madiko etc.
Q: Congratulations on your AFRIMMA Award win. Take us down that road; how did you feel when your name was called out as the winner?
A: Thanks a lot… but that was a long time ago. I felt proud to have represented my country well though I was almost by myself.
Q: The fans would love to know the real reason behind you leaving Stephens Music Label.
A: Frankly I think that’s in the past..you know. It is irrelevant to my present, our present. As you all witnessed, it was tough and painful for us all and bringing it up again would only stir more of that.
Q: Are you still friends with them?
A: Am I still friends with them? (Laughs) That will depend on your idea of friendship. We are family and that’s like one thing that really can’t change right?
Q: Many people have always said, Daphne is your replacement in the Cameroon music industry. What do you think about that?
A: Is replacement the word? Well aight.
Q: Who is Gasha dating? Eddy Kenzo?
A: *Laughs* Eddy kenzo is like a brother.
Q: By the way ‘Chill’ is a success. How did you succeed in getting Eddy Kenzo on the record?
A: We met in the US during the AFRIMMA Awards. He was cool. I later told my EP, Tibu Cheh that I have to have him on my new single. When we met, we bonded musically and beautifully. He is an easy-going guy.
Q: What embarrassing song would I find in your MP3 Player?
A: I wouldn’t listen to a song if I thought it was embarrassing.
Q: If you weren’t singing what would you be doing?
A: If I was not singing I will probably be singing anyways or acting
Q: I must commend you for the song with Stanley Enow….it is a banger. When do we expect an album from Gasha
A: Thank you. I made too many promises I did not keep. I’ll rather just shut up and get it ready.
Q: Does Gasha have a particular fashion style?
A: I just wear whatever makes me feel good at the time. It could be anything….but I feel good in either really lose or boyish clothes.
Q: What would you tell your fans and others who would love to get into the music scene.
A: Do it for the right reasons
Q: It was great talking to you Gasha
A: You are welcome
